She is now choreographer and artistic director for "Piast", the Artistic Folk Song and Dance Ensemble of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, which performs throughout the Cleveland area. Alexis Hedderson is an artist and educator, specializing in early childhood education and watercolor and collage art. She served as a preschool teacher at Laurel for many years, and has experience as a museum educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa) and Dunham Tavern Museum. She also managed the Literary Lots program in Ohio City. Literary Lots was an immersive arts and literacy endeavor that partnered with the Cleveland Public Library. An active artist, Alexis frequently shows her work locally and has collaborated with several brick-and-mortar stores to create ephemeral displays and exhibits. Alexis holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and has attended art school. Most recently, she taught through BSMA during the CMSD Summer Experience in 2021 and at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, James “Baba Jubal” Harris was exposed to Afro Caribbean drumming in kindergarten. At the age of 13 he became a student of Julius Renford "Flash" Ford. His drumming is inspired by both African and Caribbean rhythms. He is also a master drum-maker, practicing a traditional drum-making process that has been handed down from the Bambara and Mandinka peoples of West Africa. Harris led over 1200 drummers to honor Jesse Owens and to celebrate the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay in Worthington, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio, establishing an American record. He was awarded the Ohio Arts Council 2015 Ohio Heritage Fellowship for Material Culture. In his drum-making, he uses wood and other materials imported from Africa and follows traditional hand-crafting methods, building each drum himself. Teaching at local schools, Harris uses his “One World Rhythm” workshop to demonstrate how science and music come together. He has also conducted drum-making workshops, held art education residencies throughout Ohio, and founded the Heartbeat Drum Circle, Ohio's largest annual public drumming event. The Heartbeat Drum Circle brings together over 300 drummers from around the United States, making it an important social gathering in Cleveland. Baba Jubal teaches his “One World Rhythm” classes for BMSA at senior centers, schools, and after school programs.
Bernadette Glorioso is a contemporary artist based in Cleveland, OH. Her work is an ongoing reflection of life’s complexities, and she explores the human condition and current events through expressive interpretations of human forms, animals, and natural elements. Bernadette’s unique approach of weaving fabrics or clothing as canvas, together with her vibrant brushstrokes, has captivated an international audience. Her collections and commissions can be found across the US and abroad. Dedicated to her local community, she has also been commissioned to multiple public murals throughout the greater Cleveland/Akron area, the most recent being a mural for the renowned Cleveland Metroparks. Bernadette is a former board member of Art House, has managed multiple art galleries over the years, and loves hosting pop-up shows that gather today’s creative minds. She has taught in BSMA’s Creative Aging programs at Senior Citizen Resources, Spring Hill Villa, University Settlement and Murtis Taylor.
Beth Gatchell Beth has been singing and playing guitar in Northeast Ohio for the past twenty years. She is a singer/songwriter/guitarist and yogic chant artist who resides in Akron, OH. You might find her teaching children scientifically accurate songs, bringing musical uplift to seniors, leading the congregational music at Renaissance Unity, or offering backup vocals with nationally-known chant artists. Her solo folk album,
"Breakthrough," is forthcoming this year. Beth has provided music education in our summer PreK and K program and site coordination.
“THINK OUT OF THE BOX” is the mantra of storyteller Beverly Lloyd, (aka Mama Awan) as she weaves Anansi stories into your heart with dialect and humor! African American history comes alive in her historical narratives, children’s stories and unique dialect! She is an English teacher of more than 25 years and CEO of a literacy non profit entitled Pass It On MAAT. (PIOM) Her original poems and plays have been presented in schools and churches. She has presented in NY, Florida,Pennsylvania, and all over Greater Cleveland. She is currently serving as Executive Board Secretary of the Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers and Co Project Manager of a CABS video launch entitled, “Black Lives Matter: Seize the Time.”
Christine has devoted her professional career to working with children and adults in the non-profit sector. Before coming to work with BSMA, she was a mental health therapist and certified trauma practitioner at Ravenwood Health in Chardon, working with individuals aged PreK through adult. She has worked as a Head Start teacher in Appalachia, and as an art therapy intern with both Shaker City Schools and Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, she helped to implement public health programs in HIV and Malaria prevention. Miss Chris teaches in BSMA PreK program at a number of CMSD schools and day cares and also brings her “Art Smarts” program of art and social-emotional skills to Haven Home, a shelter for women and children, and after school programs.

Chris expresses herself through acrylic paint, mixed media, 2D and 3D works inspired by everyday life. As an educator, her work inspires imagination and sparks ideas to help people through a creative journey of their own. As the owner of Young’s Art Center, she combines the art that she loves with her teacher side. She is a member of Artist Archives of the Western Reserve and volunteers with nonprofit programs that bring art to low-income communities. She is an independent contractor, teaching artist and early childhood education consultant, having worked as an early childhood educator for 36 years and as a child care director for the last 14 of those years. While directing she served on a panel of early childhood professionals to create the Step Up to Quality Administrators Quality Guidelines and Professional Administrators Survey and was a member of National Association for the Education of Young Childhood (NAEYC) and instructed in-service training workshops for Polaris Career Center, Ohio Hunger Task Force, Ohio Afterschool Networks, PBS Home Child Care Providers Task Force in Cleveland, Toledo, Perry, Freemont and Columbus. She is was a teaching artist for BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.

My objective is to obtain a position that will allow me to utilize my administrative skills, talents, credentials, knowledge and years of experience as a musician, an educator and musical director.
Frederick Taylor, tenor/pianist/conductor, native of Cleveland, OH, has made his mark on stages across the United States and internationally. Locally, he has received the merit acting award for his role in Scott Joplin’s opera “Treemonisha” at Karamu House and is a member of The Cleveland Opera, Inc. While residing on the east coast, Frederick was a part of the Philadelphia Philharmonic opera where he performed in the staged opera of George Gershwin’s “Porgy & Bess.” Mr. Taylor’s talents later took him to Andover Academy of Boston, MA where, along with the Andover Academy chamber orchestra, he did a tour in Italy performing the role of Obadiah in Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”.
Internationally, Frederick has shared his gift with audiences in St. Petersburg, Russia; Shanghai, China; Ghana & South Africa. Performing with reknown orchestras such as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague, Czech Republic for their yearly Prague Proms music festival. As well, with the Medellin Metropolitan Orchestra in South America for their annual “Féria de la Flores”. (Flower Festival)
As a lifelong student of music, Frederick Taylor has studied with the late A. Grace Lee-Mims at the Cleveland Music School Settlement; Vincent D. Stringer at Morgan State University, in Baltimore, MD and Kathleen Allen at Central State University, in Wilberforce, OH, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree. Currently, Mr. Taylor is the apprentice to the executive director of the Duffy Liturgical ensemble as well as a Minister of Music at a local church. He also teaches choir music at Hope Academy Northwest.

Gina considers herself “a child of the Universe” and has traveled to many places collecting images and connecting artists. She has won many awards for portraiture and creates art “by any means necessary” as she combines many different mediums. As a member of The Visit artists collaborative, and a master collaborator, she regularly co-creates exhibitions showcasing poetry, storytelling, music and visual arts for local events such as Ingenuity, FireFish and Rooms to Let. She has exhibited her work at Lakeland Community College, the Riffe Gallery (Columbus, OH), Cleveland Public Library, and in the Westmoreland Art Nationals (Greensburg, PA). In 2010 she was an apprentice with the Creative Filmmakers Association, and she has been a featured artist several times on WCPN's Around Noon show. In 2007 she was an artist in residence at the Global Arts Village in New Delhi, India. Her goal is to make art accessible to all people and to connect the world globally by bringing more international artists to Cleveland, Ohio. She teaches at Rainey Institute in addition to BSMA. She is was a teaching artist for BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year and helps with BSMA programs whenever possible.

Julie is the owner of Wave Space Studio in Lakewood, Ohio where she offers screen printing, video and photography services. She enjoys creating original and memorable impressions through her work. She has built her portfolio by developing personal relationships with artists and companies. Together they work to create impactful images and video content as well as unique apparel to engage and inspire their consumers.
Julie is also a teacher and studio programs assistant at The Cleveland Museum of Art, developing projects that engage visitors with the collection and advance their skills in the arts. Julie was a teaching artistfor BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.
Kristen established herself as an afrofuturist creative while studying at Harlaxton College in England during her youth. After 10 years of experience in Creative and Social Entrepreneurship, and 5 years of experience teaching visual arts and literacy in Chicago, she moved to Cleveland recently. Kristen’s passion is the joy of discovery in helping our youth locate their strength through creative identity, and she injects that into the classroom experience.

Growing up in Parma, Ohio, Mark Yasenchack spent a great deal of time in the art room during his high school years. In college he split his time between Biology, Creative writing, Education and Visual arts, finally graduating with a B.S. in Biology and an Art minor.
A seasoned teaching artist, Mark has worked as an artist in residence with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and local art organizations since 1992. Mark started teaching in small rec centers and community art centers through Center for Arts-Inspired Learning and Art House. Mark was delighted to work with Broadway School of Music & the Arts at William Rainey Harper School. In his personal practice, he explores the intersection of art and architecture, and has an affinity for geometric forms. Mark builds and fires his ceramic artwork in his studio at the Lakewood Screw Factory.
Education: BS Biology and Fine Arts minor, Baldwin-Wallace College; Cuyahoga Community College, Glaze Chemistry concentration
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Melissa Daubert created her first portfolio in 11th grade earning her a scholarship to study at Columbus College of Art & Design. Focusing primarily on 3D works, she received a BFA in Illustration. After graduation Daubert served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa where she taught metalworking in rural Zimbabwe. Donning a dress, Daubert inspired the first female students in the school's history to study metal fabrication.
In 1995 Daubert joined the team building the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. A strong and visionary leader, she was responsible for the design and fabrication of numerous exhibits still part of the museum's permanent collection including Port Polymer, one of the museum's key areas for children.
In 2005 Daubert established Interactive Works of Art, a sole proprietorship through which she creates work locally, regionally and nationally for museums, hospitals, theaters, galleries, public spaces, private institutions and individual collections. Melissa has recently acquired her teaching certificate through the State of Ohio and is a full-time art teacher at Luis Munoz Marin School. Melissa was a BSMA teaching artist during the 2021-2022 school year at William Rainey Harper and also works in BSMA’s summer programs.

Ms. Ruble has served as a teaching artist in area community arts education programs for many years. She has completed artist-in-residence programs through Young Audiences (now Center for Arts Inspired Learning), International House of Blues Foundation, Art House, Inc., Kulture Kids, and Progressive Arts Alliance. These residencies were in partnership with Cleveland Metropolitan Schools, Luther Memorial School and other non-profit organizations. She has also been a museum educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa). She was previously the Program Coordinator with the International House of Blues Foundation (Cleveland, OH), Education Coordinator at Art House, Inc. and Outreach Coordinator for BSMA. As an Environmental Educator at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, she has shared her passion for the outdoors and then brought creative connections between visual arts and science-based themes to the art education she does at BSMA. Miss Meri teaches in after-school programs, summer programs and in-school residencies for BSMA.

Pia is a certified Drums Alive instructor and teaches many various movement and fitness formats as well as voice throughout the Cleveland area. Pia trained vocally with David Gooding and currently sings professionally with Fairmont Temple Choir in Beachwood. Her dance training includes tap with Dave Morganstern, ballet with Paul Wilson and Linda Adolphi of Washington Ballet, and jazz with area master instructors and studios. She has participated in productions at Cain Park and Beck Center for the Arts as well as television appearances with Mr. Jingeling. She teaches Drums Alive! music and fitness classes for BSMA in PreK through senior adult programs

Sam Hooper has an alluring blend of blues, rock, jazz and funk that has thrilled audiences in China, Finland, and Japan, while his songs have been heard on TV’s "All My Children" and "The Young and the Restless.” A graduate of Florida's University of Miami School of Music and an alumni of Berklee College of Music's Songwriting Program in Boston, guitarist, singer-songwriter, Hooper is also an experienced educator. He is a teaching artist for Roots of American Music (ROAM) where he leads classes of high school students in writing, recording and performing songs together about diversity and intolerance for the STOP THE HATE program. He also teaches guitar and ukulele classes to kids in the afterschool program at Fatima Family Center and private music centers throughout Cleveland. He recently taught ukulele for BSMA at Senior Citizen Resources and is now leading a choir of senior adults.
Stephanie Wilbert is an Actor, Director, and Adjunct Faculty Theater Instructor at Lorain County Community College. Her masters work primarily focused on ensemble-based performance and devised theater techniques. Stephanie is an Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) and has performed in various productions in Colorado, Northeastern Ohio and surrounding states. She has worked as a Teaching Artist for Talespinner Children’s Theatre, The Ohio City Theatre Project, Spark Theatre 4 Youth and The Illusion Factory.

As the owner of Young’s Art Center, she combines the art that she loves with her teacher side. She is a member of Artist Archives of the Western Reserve and volunteers with nonprofit programs that bring art to low-income communities. She is an independent contractor, teaching artist and early childhood education consultant, having worked as an early childhood educator for 36 years and as a child care director for the last 14 of those years. While directing she served on a panel of early childhood professionals to create the Step Up to Quality Administrators Quality Guidelines and Professional Administrators Survey and was a member of National Association for the Education of Young Childhood (NAEYC) and instructed in-service training workshops for Polaris Career Center, Ohio Hunger Task Force, Ohio Afterschool Networks, PBS Home Child Care Providers Task Force in Cleveland, Toledo, Perry, Freemont and Columbus. She is was a teaching artist for BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.
Claudio has been active as an artist and art educator throughout Northeast Ohio. He has been Artist in Residence and Outreach Coordinator at Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory & Educational Foundation, and since 2008 has been Coordinator for Apollo Outreach, a program of Oberlin College's Cinema Studies Program. He has taught at FAVA (Oberlin), and through Art House and Zygote Press (both in Cleveland). In fall 2016, he was an Artist in Residence at the Rasmuson Foundation in Homer, Alaska, through an exchange program with Zygote Press. Through BSMA, he has taught printmaking and papermaking to students in University Settlement's after-school program, including teens at Washington Park Horticulture Center who he also involved as participants in Slavic Village Development's 2016 Rooms to Let event. He has also introduced the excitement of papermaking to Slavic Village preschoolers.

Frederick Taylor, tenor/pianist/conductor, native of Cleveland, OH, has made his mark on stages across the United States and internationally. Locally, he has received the merit acting award for his role in Scott Joplin’s opera “Treemonisha” at Karamu House and is a member of The Cleveland Opera, Inc. While residing on the east coast, Frederick was a part of the Philadelphia Philharmonic opera where he performed in the staged opera of George Gershwin’s “Porgy & Bess.” Mr. Taylor’s talents later took him to Andover Academy of Boston, MA where, along with the Andover Academy chamber orchestra, he did a tour in Italy performing the role of Obadiah in Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”.
Internationally, Frederick has shared his gift with audiences in St. Petersburg, Russia; Shanghai, China; Ghana & South Africa. Performing with reknown orchestras such as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague, Czech Republic for their yearly Prague Proms music festival. As well, with the Medellin Metropolitan Orchestra in South America for their annual “Féria de la Flores”. (Flower Festival)
As a lifelong student of music, Frederick Taylor has studied with the late A. Grace Lee-Mims at the Cleveland Music School Settlement; Vincent D. Stringer at Morgan State University, in Baltimore, MD and Kathleen Allen at Central State University, in Wilberforce, OH, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree. Currently, Mr. Taylor is the apprentice to the executive director of the Duffy Liturgical ensemble as well as a Minister of Music at a local church. He also teaches choir music at Hope Academy Northwest.

Gina considers herself “a child of the Universe” and has traveled to many places collecting images and connecting artists. She has won many awards for portraiture and creates art “by any means necessary” as she combines many different mediums. As a member of The Visit artists collaborative, and a master collaborator, she regularly co-creates exhibitions showcasing poetry, storytelling, music and visual arts for local events such as Ingenuity, FireFish and Rooms to Let. She has exhibited her work at Lakeland Community College, the Riffe Gallery (Columbus, OH), Cleveland Public Library, and in the Westmoreland Art Nationals (Greensburg, PA). In 2010 she was an apprentice with the Creative Filmmakers Association, and she has been a featured artist several times on WCPN's Around Noon show. In 2007 she was an artist in residence at the Global Arts Village in New Delhi, India. Her goal is to make art accessible to all people and to connect the world globally by bringing more international artists to Cleveland, Ohio. She teaches at Rainey Institute in addition to BSMA. She is was a teaching artist for BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year and helps with BSMA programs whenever possible.

Julie is the owner of Wave Space Studio in Lakewood, Ohio where she offers screen printing, video and photography services. She enjoys creating original and memorable impressions through her work. She has built her portfolio by developing personal relationships with artists and companies. Together they work to create impactful images and video content as well as unique apparel to engage and inspire their consumers.
Julie is also a teacher and studio programs assistant at The Cleveland Museum of Art, developing projects that engage visitors with the collection and advance their skills in the arts. Julie was a teaching artistfor BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.
Kristen established herself as an afrofuturist creative while studying at Harlaxton College in England during her youth. After 10 years of experience in Creative and Social Entrepreneurship, and 5 years of experience teaching visual arts and literacy in Chicago, she moved to Cleveland recently. Kristen’s passion is the joy of discovery in helping our youth locate their strength through creative identity, and she injects that into the classroom experience.

Growing up in Parma, Ohio, Mark Yasenchack spent a great deal of time in the art room during his high school years. In college he split his time between Biology, Creative writing, Education and Visual arts, finally graduating with a B.S. in Biology and an Art minor.
A seasoned teaching artist, Mark has worked as an artist in residence with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and local art organizations since 1992. Mark started teaching in small rec centers and community art centers through Center for Arts-Inspired Learning and Art House. Mark was delighted to work with Broadway School of Music & the Arts at William Rainey Harper School. In his personal practice, he explores the intersection of art and architecture, and has an affinity for geometric forms. Mark builds and fires his ceramic artwork in his studio at the Lakewood Screw Factory.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Melissa Daubert created her first portfolio in 11th grade earning her a scholarship to study at Columbus College of Art & Design. Focusing primarily on 3D works, she received a BFA in Illustration. After graduation Daubert served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa where she taught metalworking in rural Zimbabwe. Donning a dress, Daubert inspired the first female students in the school's history to study metal fabrication.
In 1995 Daubert joined the team building the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. A strong and visionary leader, she was responsible for the design and fabrication of numerous exhibits still part of the museum's permanent collection including Port Polymer, one of the museum's key areas for children.
In 2005 Daubert established Interactive Works of Art, a sole proprietorship through which she creates work locally, regionally and nationally for museums, hospitals, theaters, galleries, public spaces, private institutions and individual collections. Melissa has recently acquired her teaching certificate through the State of Ohio and is a full-time art teacher at Luis Munoz Marin School. Melissa was a BSMA teaching artist during the 2021-2022 school year at William Rainey Harper and also works in BSMA’s summer programs.

Ms. Ruble has served as a teaching artist in area community arts education programs for many years. She has completed artist-in-residence programs through Young Audiences (now Center for Arts Inspired Learning), International House of Blues Foundation, Art House, Inc., Kulture Kids, and Progressive Arts Alliance. These residencies were in partnership with Cleveland Metropolitan Schools, Luther Memorial School and other non-profit organizations. She has also been a museum educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa). She was previously the Program Coordinator with the International House of Blues Foundation (Cleveland, OH), Education Coordinator at Art House, Inc. and Outreach Coordinator for BSMA. As an Environmental Educator at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, she has shared her passion for the outdoors and then brought creative connections between visual arts and science-based themes to the art education she does at BSMA. Miss Meri teaches in after-school programs, summer programs and in-school residencies for BSMA.

Pia is a certified Drums Alive instructor and teaches many various movement and fitness formats as well as voice throughout the Cleveland area. Pia trained vocally with David Gooding and currently sings professionally with Fairmont Temple Choir in Beachwood. Her dance training includes tap with Dave Morganstern, ballet with Paul Wilson and Linda Adolphi of Washington Ballet, and jazz with area master instructors and studios. She has participated in productions at Cain Park and Beck Center for the Arts as well as television appearances with Mr. Jingeling. She teaches Drums Alive! music and fitness classes for BSMA in PreK through senior adult programs

Sam Hooper has an alluring blend of blues, rock, jazz and funk that has thrilled audiences in China, Finland, and Japan, while his songs have been heard on TV’s "All My Children" and "The Young and the Restless.” A graduate of Florida's University of Miami School of Music and an alumni of Berklee College of Music's Songwriting Program in Boston, guitarist, singer-songwriter, Hooper is also an experienced educator. He is a teaching artist for Roots of American Music (ROAM) where he leads classes of high school students in writing, recording and performing songs together about diversity and intolerance for the STOP THE HATE program. He also teaches guitar and ukulele classes to kids in the afterschool program at Fatima Family Center and private music centers throughout Cleveland. He recently taught ukulele for BSMA at Senior Citizen Resources and is now leading a choir of senior adults.
Stephanie Wilbert is an Actor, Director, and Adjunct Faculty Theater Instructor at Lorain County Community College. Her masters work primarily focused on ensemble-based performance and devised theater techniques. Stephanie is an Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) and has performed in various productions in Colorado, Northeastern Ohio and surrounding states. She has worked as a Teaching Artist for Talespinner Children’s Theatre, The Ohio City Theatre Project, Spark Theatre 4 Youth and The Illusion Factory.

Alexis Hedderson is an artist and educator, specializing in early childhood education and watercolor and collage art. She served as a preschool teacher at Laurel for many years, and has experience as a museum educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa) and Dunham Tavern Museum. She also managed the Literary Lots program in Ohio City. Literary Lots was an immersive arts and literacy endeavor that partnered with the Cleveland Public Library. An active artist, Alexis frequently shows her work locally and has collaborated with several brick-and-mortar stores to create ephemeral displays and exhibits. Alexis holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and has attended art school. Most recently, she taught through BSMA during the CMSD Summer Experience in 2021 and at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, James “Baba Jubal” Harris was exposed to Afro Caribbean drumming in kindergarten. At the age of 13 he became a student of Julius Renford "Flash" Ford. His drumming is inspired by both African and Caribbean rhythms. He is also a master drum-maker, practicing a traditional drum-making process that has been handed down from the Bambara and Mandinka peoples of West Africa. Harris led over 1200 drummers to honor Jesse Owens and to celebrate the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay in Worthington, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio, establishing an American record. He was awarded the Ohio Arts Council 2015 Ohio Heritage Fellowship for Material Culture. In his drum-making, he uses wood and other materials imported from Africa and follows traditional hand-crafting methods, building each drum himself. Teaching at local schools, Harris uses his “One World Rhythm” workshop to demonstrate how science and music come together. He has also conducted drum-making workshops, held art education residencies throughout Ohio, and founded the Heartbeat Drum Circle, Ohio's largest annual public drumming event. The Heartbeat Drum Circle brings together over 300 drummers from around the United States, making it an important social gathering in Cleveland. Baba Jubal teaches his “One World Rhythm” classes for BMSA at senior centers, schools, and after school programs.
Bernadette Glorioso is a contemporary artist based in Cleveland, OH. Her work is an ongoing reflection of life’s complexities, and she explores the human condition and current events through expressive interpretations of human forms, animals, and natural elements. Bernadette’s unique approach of weaving fabrics or clothing as canvas, together with her vibrant brushstrokes, has captivated an international audience. Her collections and commissions can be found across the US and abroad. Dedicated to her local community, she has also been commissioned to multiple public murals throughout the greater Cleveland/Akron area, the most recent being a mural for the renowned Cleveland Metroparks. Bernadette is a former board member of Art House, has managed multiple art galleries over the years, and loves hosting pop-up shows that gather today’s creative minds. She has taught in BSMA’s Creative Aging programs at Senior Citizen Resources, Spring Hill Villa, University Settlement and Murtis Taylor.
Beth Gatchell Beth has been singing and playing guitar in Northeast Ohio for the past twenty years. She is a singer/songwriter/guitarist and yogic chant artist who resides in Akron, OH. You might find her teaching children scientifically accurate songs, bringing musical uplift to seniors, leading the congregational music at Renaissance Unity, or offering backup vocals with nationally-known chant artists. Her solo folk album,
"Breakthrough," is forthcoming this year. Beth has provided music education in our summer PreK and K program and site coordination.
“THINK OUT OF THE BOX” is the mantra of storyteller Beverly Lloyd, (aka Mama Awan) as she weaves Anansi stories into your heart with dialect and humor! African American history comes alive in her historical narratives, children’s stories and unique dialect! She is an English teacher of more than 25 years and CEO of a literacy non profit entitled Pass It On MAAT. (PIOM) Her original poems and plays have been presented in schools and churches. She has presented in NY, Florida,Pennsylvania, and all over Greater Cleveland. She is currently serving as Executive Board Secretary of the Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers and Co Project Manager of a CABS video launch entitled, “Black Lives Matter: Seize the Time.”
Christine has devoted her professional career to working with children and adults in the non-profit sector. Before coming to work with BSMA, she was a mental health therapist and certified trauma practitioner at Ravenwood Health in Chardon, working with individuals aged PreK through adult. She has worked as a Head Start teacher in Appalachia, and as an art therapy intern with both Shaker City Schools and Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, she helped to implement public health programs in HIV and Malaria prevention. Miss Chris teaches in BSMA PreK program at a number of CMSD schools and day cares and also brings her “Art Smarts” program of art and social-emotional skills to Haven Home, a shelter for women and children, and after school programs.

Mark started teaching in small rec centers and community art centers through Center for Arts-Inspired Learning and Art House. Mark was delighted to work with Broadway School of Music & the Arts at William Rainey Harper School. In his personal practice, he explores the intersection of art and architecture, and has an affinity for geometric forms. Mark builds and fires his ceramic artwork in his studio at the Lakewood Screw Factory.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Melissa Daubert created her first portfolio in 11th grade earning her a scholarship to study at Columbus College of Art & Design. Focusing primarily on 3D works, she received a BFA in Illustration. After graduation Daubert served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa where she taught metalworking in rural Zimbabwe. Donning a dress, Daubert inspired the first female students in the school's history to study metal fabrication.
In 1995 Daubert joined the team building the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. A strong and visionary leader, she was responsible for the design and fabrication of numerous exhibits still part of the museum's permanent collection including Port Polymer, one of the museum's key areas for children.
In 2005 Daubert established Interactive Works of Art, a sole proprietorship through which she creates work locally, regionally and nationally for museums, hospitals, theaters, galleries, public spaces, private institutions and individual collections. Melissa has recently acquired her teaching certificate through the State of Ohio and is a full-time art teacher at Luis Munoz Marin School. Melissa was a BSMA teaching artist during the 2021-2022 school year at William Rainey Harper and also works in BSMA’s summer programs.

Ms. Ruble has served as a teaching artist in area community arts education programs for many years. She has completed artist-in-residence programs through Young Audiences (now Center for Arts Inspired Learning), International House of Blues Foundation, Art House, Inc., Kulture Kids, and Progressive Arts Alliance. These residencies were in partnership with Cleveland Metropolitan Schools, Luther Memorial School and other non-profit organizations. She has also been a museum educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa). She was previously the Program Coordinator with the International House of Blues Foundation (Cleveland, OH), Education Coordinator at Art House, Inc. and Outreach Coordinator for BSMA. As an Environmental Educator at the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, she has shared her passion for the outdoors and then brought creative connections between visual arts and science-based themes to the art education she does at BSMA. Miss Meri teaches in after-school programs, summer programs and in-school residencies for BSMA.

Pia is a certified Drums Alive instructor and teaches many various movement and fitness formats as well as voice throughout the Cleveland area. Pia trained vocally with David Gooding and currently sings professionally with Fairmont Temple Choir in Beachwood. Her dance training includes tap with Dave Morganstern, ballet with Paul Wilson and Linda Adolphi of Washington Ballet, and jazz with area master instructors and studios. She has participated in productions at Cain Park and Beck Center for the Arts as well as television appearances with Mr. Jingeling. She teaches Drums Alive! music and fitness classes for BSMA in PreK through senior adult programs

Sam Hooper has an alluring blend of blues, rock, jazz and funk that has thrilled audiences in China, Finland, and Japan, while his songs have been heard on TV’s "All My Children" and "The Young and the Restless.” A graduate of Florida's University of Miami School of Music and an alumni of Berklee College of Music's Songwriting Program in Boston, guitarist, singer-songwriter, Hooper is also an experienced educator. He is a teaching artist for Roots of American Music (ROAM) where he leads classes of high school students in writing, recording and performing songs together about diversity and intolerance for the STOP THE HATE program. He also teaches guitar and ukulele classes to kids in the afterschool program at Fatima Family Center and private music centers throughout Cleveland. He recently taught ukulele for BSMA at Senior Citizen Resources and is now leading a choir of senior adults.
Stephanie Wilbert is an Actor, Director, and Adjunct Faculty Theater Instructor at Lorain County Community College. Her masters work primarily focused on ensemble-based performance and devised theater techniques. Stephanie is an Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) and has performed in various productions in Colorado, Northeastern Ohio and surrounding states. She has worked as a Teaching Artist for Talespinner Children’s Theatre, The Ohio City Theatre Project, Spark Theatre 4 Youth and The Illusion Factory.

Alexis Hedderson is an artist and educator, specializing in early childhood education and watercolor and collage art. She served as a preschool teacher at Laurel for many years, and has experience as a museum educator at the Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa) and Dunham Tavern Museum. She also managed the Literary Lots program in Ohio City. Literary Lots was an immersive arts and literacy endeavor that partnered with the Cleveland Public Library. An active artist, Alexis frequently shows her work locally and has collaborated with several brick-and-mortar stores to create ephemeral displays and exhibits. Alexis holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and has attended art school. Most recently, she taught through BSMA during the CMSD Summer Experience in 2021 and at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, James “Baba Jubal” Harris was exposed to Afro Caribbean drumming in kindergarten. At the age of 13 he became a student of Julius Renford "Flash" Ford. His drumming is inspired by both African and Caribbean rhythms. He is also a master drum-maker, practicing a traditional drum-making process that has been handed down from the Bambara and Mandinka peoples of West Africa. Harris led over 1200 drummers to honor Jesse Owens and to celebrate the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay in Worthington, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio, establishing an American record. He was awarded the Ohio Arts Council 2015 Ohio Heritage Fellowship for Material Culture. In his drum-making, he uses wood and other materials imported from Africa and follows traditional hand-crafting methods, building each drum himself. Teaching at local schools, Harris uses his “One World Rhythm” workshop to demonstrate how science and music come together. He has also conducted drum-making workshops, held art education residencies throughout Ohio, and founded the Heartbeat Drum Circle, Ohio's largest annual public drumming event. The Heartbeat Drum Circle brings together over 300 drummers from around the United States, making it an important social gathering in Cleveland. Baba Jubal teaches his “One World Rhythm” classes for BMSA at senior centers, schools, and after school programs.
Bernadette Glorioso is a contemporary artist based in Cleveland, OH. Her work is an ongoing reflection of life’s complexities, and she explores the human condition and current events through expressive interpretations of human forms, animals, and natural elements. Bernadette’s unique approach of weaving fabrics or clothing as canvas, together with her vibrant brushstrokes, has captivated an international audience. Her collections and commissions can be found across the US and abroad. Dedicated to her local community, she has also been commissioned to multiple public murals throughout the greater Cleveland/Akron area, the most recent being a mural for the renowned Cleveland Metroparks. Bernadette is a former board member of Art House, has managed multiple art galleries over the years, and loves hosting pop-up shows that gather today’s creative minds. She has taught in BSMA’s Creative Aging programs at Senior Citizen Resources, Spring Hill Villa, University Settlement and Murtis Taylor.
Beth Gatchell Beth has been singing and playing guitar in Northeast Ohio for the past twenty years. She is a singer/songwriter/guitarist and yogic chant artist who resides in Akron, OH. You might find her teaching children scientifically accurate songs, bringing musical uplift to seniors, leading the congregational music at Renaissance Unity, or offering backup vocals with nationally-known chant artists. Her solo folk album,
"Breakthrough," is forthcoming this year. Beth has provided music education in our summer PreK and K program and site coordination.
“THINK OUT OF THE BOX” is the mantra of storyteller Beverly Lloyd, (aka Mama Awan) as she weaves Anansi stories into your heart with dialect and humor! African American history comes alive in her historical narratives, children’s stories and unique dialect! She is an English teacher of more than 25 years and CEO of a literacy non profit entitled Pass It On MAAT. (PIOM) Her original poems and plays have been presented in schools and churches. She has presented in NY, Florida,Pennsylvania, and all over Greater Cleveland. She is currently serving as Executive Board Secretary of the Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers and Co Project Manager of a CABS video launch entitled, “Black Lives Matter: Seize the Time.”
Christine has devoted her professional career to working with children and adults in the non-profit sector. Before coming to work with BSMA, she was a mental health therapist and certified trauma practitioner at Ravenwood Health in Chardon, working with individuals aged PreK through adult. She has worked as a Head Start teacher in Appalachia, and as an art therapy intern with both Shaker City Schools and Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya, she helped to implement public health programs in HIV and Malaria prevention. Miss Chris teaches in BSMA PreK program at a number of CMSD schools and day cares and also brings her “Art Smarts” program of art and social-emotional skills to Haven Home, a shelter for women and children, and after school programs.

Chris expresses herself through acrylic paint, mixed media, 2D and 3D works inspired by everyday life. As an educator, her work inspires imagination and sparks ideas to help people through a creative journey of their own. As the owner of Young’s Art Center, she combines the art that she loves with her teacher side. She is a member of Artist Archives of the Western Reserve and volunteers with nonprofit programs that bring art to low-income communities. She is an independent contractor, teaching artist and early childhood education consultant, having worked as an early childhood educator for 36 years and as a child care director for the last 14 of those years. While directing she served on a panel of early childhood professionals to create the Step Up to Quality Administrators Quality Guidelines and Professional Administrators Survey and was a member of National Association for the Education of Young Childhood (NAEYC) and instructed in-service training workshops for Polaris Career Center, Ohio Hunger Task Force, Ohio Afterschool Networks, PBS Home Child Care Providers Task Force in Cleveland, Toledo, Perry, Freemont and Columbus. She is was a teaching artist for BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.

Frederick Taylor, tenor/pianist/conductor, native of Cleveland, OH, has made his mark on stages across the United States and internationally. Locally, he has received the merit acting award for his role in Scott Joplin’s opera “Treemonisha” at Karamu House and is a member of The Cleveland Opera, Inc. While residing on the east coast, Frederick was a part of the Philadelphia Philharmonic opera where he performed in the staged opera of George Gershwin’s “Porgy & Bess.” Mr. Taylor’s talents later took him to Andover Academy of Boston, MA where, along with the Andover Academy chamber orchestra, he did a tour in Italy performing the role of Obadiah in Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”.
Internationally, Frederick has shared his gift with audiences in St. Petersburg, Russia; Shanghai, China; Ghana & South Africa. Performing with reknown orchestras such as the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague, Czech Republic for their yearly Prague Proms music festival. As well, with the Medellin Metropolitan Orchestra in South America for their annual “Féria de la Flores”. (Flower Festival)
As a lifelong student of music, Frederick Taylor has studied with the late A. Grace Lee-Mims at the Cleveland Music School Settlement; Vincent D. Stringer at Morgan State University, in Baltimore, MD and Kathleen Allen at Central State University, in Wilberforce, OH, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree. Currently, Mr. Taylor is the apprentice to the executive director of the Duffy Liturgical ensemble as well as a Minister of Music at a local church. He also teaches choir music at Hope Academy Northwest.

Gina considers herself “a child of the Universe” and has traveled to many places collecting images and connecting artists. She has won many awards for portraiture and creates art “by any means necessary” as she combines many different mediums. As a member of The Visit artists collaborative, and a master collaborator, she regularly co-creates exhibitions showcasing poetry, storytelling, music and visual arts for local events such as Ingenuity, FireFish and Rooms to Let. She has exhibited her work at Lakeland Community College, the Riffe Gallery (Columbus, OH), Cleveland Public Library, and in the Westmoreland Art Nationals (Greensburg, PA). In 2010 she was an apprentice with the Creative Filmmakers Association, and she has been a featured artist several times on WCPN's Around Noon show. In 2007 she was an artist in residence at the Global Arts Village in New Delhi, India. Her goal is to make art accessible to all people and to connect the world globally by bringing more international artists to Cleveland, Ohio. She teaches at Rainey Institute in addition to BSMA. She is was a teaching artist for BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year and helps with BSMA programs whenever possible.

Julie is the owner of Wave Space Studio in Lakewood, Ohio where she offers screen printing, video and photography services. She enjoys creating original and memorable impressions through her work. She has built her portfolio by developing personal relationships with artists and companies. Together they work to create impactful images and video content as well as unique apparel to engage and inspire their consumers.
Julie is also a teacher and studio programs assistant at The Cleveland Museum of Art, developing projects that engage visitors with the collection and advance their skills in the arts. Julie was a teaching artistfor BSMA at William Rainey Harper during the 2021-2022 school year.
Kristen established herself as an afrofuturist creative while studying at Harlaxton College in England during her youth. After 10 years of experience in Creative and Social Entrepreneurship, and 5 years of experience teaching visual arts and literacy in Chicago, she moved to Cleveland recently. Kristen’s passion is the joy of discovery in helping our youth locate their strength through creative identity, and she injects that into the classroom experience.
