Broadway School of Music & the Arts (BSMA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated
to enriching lives by providing access to high-quality, diverse arts and music instruction and
programming. Guided by core values of confidence building, enrichment, empowerment,
education, community building, quality, and accessibility, BSMA offers arts educational
opportunities to individuals of all ages, abilities, and financial means throughout Greater
Cleveland. We believe that arts participation can engender hope, improve lives, and strengthen
the fabric of urban communities.

BSMA is a highly respected institution with excellent instructors and teaching artists, quality
programming, and a deep-rooted history in Cleveland’s Slavic Village and North Broadway
neighborhoods. In its last complete fiscal year, BSMA touched the lives of approximately 2,500
individuals on an annual operating budget of $300,000. As Executive Director, you will lead the
organization through a period of strategic revitalization, ensuring its long-term sustainability and
impact.

Position Summary:
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of BSMA, responsible for
overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the organization. The ED works
closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and community partners to advance BSMA’s mission
and ensure the organization’s financial health and programmatic excellence. The annual salary
range for this position is $62,000 to $68,000, and a payment of $600.00 per month is offered in
lieu of group health benefits.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Management:
• Provide visionary and strategic leadership to advance BSMA’s mission and goals.
• Define and implement clear, executable goals that align with BSMA’s mission and
community needs.
• Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services,
ensuring they align with the organization’s mission and meet the needs of the community.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative organizational culture among staff,
instructors, volunteers, and participants.
• Maintain BSMA’s legacy and reputation while ensuring its adaptability to changing
neighborhood dynamics.

2. Fundraising and Financial Management:

• Develop a clear, compelling case for support that highlights BSMA’s unique role in the
community.
• Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial support
from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
• Strengthen relationships with existing donors and diversify funding streams to support
programming, staff capacity, and potential facility solutions.
• Prepare and manage the annual budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with
strategic priorities.
• Oversee financial reporting, audits, and compliance with all applicable regulations.
3. Community Engagement and Program Visibility:
• Serve as the primary spokesperson for BSMA, effectively communicating the
organization’s mission, programs, and impact to various stakeholders.
• Expand awareness of BSMA’s programs, ensuring their impact is recognized and
supported.
• Deepen partnerships with Slavic Village organizations and play a role in shaping the
neighborhood’s future.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community partners, including schools,
cultural organizations, government agencies, and local businesses.
• Advocate for the importance of arts education and actively participate in community
initiatives that align with BSMA’s mission.
4. Board Relations:
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans,
policies, and initiatives.
• Provide regular updates to the Board on organizational performance, financial status, and
key developments.
• Assist in identifying and recruiting new Board members whose skills, experience, and
diversity align with BSMA’s needs.
5. Program Development and Evaluation:

• Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs to ensure they are high-
quality, impactful, and responsive to community needs.

• Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in program delivery and curriculum
development.
• Ensure that programs are accessible to all individuals, regardless of age, race, religion,
level of ability, or financial means.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, nonprofit management, education, or a related
field; advanced degree preferred.

• Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, arts administration, or
community development.
• Proven track record in fundraising, including securing grants and cultivating donor
relationships.
• Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, financial analysis, and
reporting.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships and work effectively with
diverse stakeholders.
• Passion for arts education and a commitment to promoting accessibility and inclusivity in
the arts.
• Strong storytelling and communication skills to articulate BSMA’s impact.
